Great DYI Product that scans at 1440x1080p (not720p).
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I purchased this film scanner because not only was it cheaper than the Wolverine models, but it also scans at 1080p. The cheapest Wolverine model which is still more expensive than this one, only scans at 720p. The least you will have to do is correct the speed of your scans because the created file will playback 18fps at 30fps, making it faster. You can do that on any simple editing application; most computers include a free editing app. I've uploaded my video that compares the work I did to my scans. Both sides of the video have been speed corrected.

Better than expected
After reading many reviews, I gathered many feared purchasing from this seemingly unknown manufacture. Due to these concerns by others, I ended up buying the well known brand as well. I was able to make a head to head comparison. In my opinion, this one ended up being the one I kept and I returned the well known brand. Brand X (this product) vs Brand Y (well known product). Brand X benefits: faster rewind, slightly higher quality 1080p bit rate, better warranty. Brand X quirks: no 7" reel compatibility. Brand Y benefits: 7" reel compatibility. Brand Y quirks: slower rewind, harder to load film, deceptive warranty. The warranty gotcha with Brand Y was really the kicker, but the slower rewind and the lower bit rate were contributing factors as well. The warranty with Brand Y is not stated clearly in any seller descriptions that I could find. In essence, it is a use warranty consisting of 200 uses. In the owners manual it says 200 reels, but this is very inaccurate. Every time you push the start button it counts as one reel. Film out of adjustment, need to stop and adjust, push play, another reel is counted. There is even a reel use counter permanently displayed on the display. You could use much of your warranty in the very beginning trying to figure out how to get things setup. Regardless, if you never made any adjustments and only pushed play once per reel, the warranty is for 12 months or 200 reels. Brand X has no such restrictions and has an 18 month warranty.Summary: The faster rewind, higher bit rate, better warranty and very responsive customer support were the deciding factors for me to choose this product. Plus it is a $50-100 less expensive, depending on sale pricing. The only real negative is you cannot use the 7" reel. Hope this helps anyone who is looking to purchase an 8mm digitizer.

Incredible Machine - Highly recommended. This one is worth it for me.
I have digitized approximately 24 reels of old 8mm film, and they are really fantastic looking. I am looking forward to converting all of my parents' home videos from way back in the day, they should be delightfully surprised. As far as converting what I have done thus far, the default exposure settings have been optimal. Hopefully all of the films that I still have to do are just as simple.Fantastic! So impressed with its Multi-language operation manual and very detailed product structure diagram for this scanner. A fully automated machine, Frame-by-Frame Digitizing for HD Conversion - Converts 8mm and Super 8 movies into MPEG-4 (MP4) digital movie files at 1080P/ 30 fps.Compatible with my Windows, it supports to transfer video to PC. Backup or save the scanned video easily.Playback the scanned video - View the movie after scanning with the built-in full color 2.4 inch LCD screen or directly project onto your television with the included video out TV cable. The enough storage space and fast frame rate provides you excellent scanning experience. Delicate design and fast delivery, I bet you will love it if you take it your first sight. Sharing so much, in a word, I love this one, and can’t wait to recommend this scanner! Thanks again!

Seeing the past and sharing!
I received many 8mm reels from my uncle that are from the 1950’s and older with no way to transfer them. When I saw this machine I thought I would take a chance and try it out. When I received it my 18 year old grandson was visiting so we sat down and started to transfer them. He was able to see both his great great grand parents and great grand parents. I would highly recommend this machine. It was exciting to share this history.

Great unit
This is a great unit for the price. It was easy to get the film on and digitised quickly and well. The only con I have for this unit is that it only holds small and medium reels, the larger ones don't folit and nor is there an adapter to fit them on it.Some of our films were spliced poorly so we had to cut them, but this unit took the straight cut edges in easily and continued recording the frames. We are so happy that we have all of our family's old films as mp4s now.
