My aloe vera never looked better!
I used to use standard compost for my aloe vera, mixed with gravel, for 6 years. I used to replace it every year or so and I t never looked too bad but didn’t quite have the succulence it was supposed to have. However, from the end of last year it started losing the thickness and curling inwards while the colour looked very dull and the tips were turning amber.Bought this compost and replaced the soil in early September. For about 2 weeks I was not sure if they were working, but after almost 2 months I can now see the nutrition in this compost is really working. The aloe looks surprisingly plump, rigid and looking very healthy; the leaves look much longer and wider than I have ever seen!!It is a bit pricy compared to normal compost but I’m glad I purchased this one, it’s definitely worth the money when you want your succulents to come back to life.

Retains too much water.
Purchased this to pot up cacti and succulents. I also wanted to mix it with other substrates to make different types of house plant soil. Just as well that was my plan. The bag of cactus compost arrived and it was so heavy, on opening it was wet and soggy inside. I ended up adding things like coir, perlite, some drier compost, and grit that I had handy. Its fine, but just not what I expected as cactus type, it must have lots of peat content, not really what you want in that specific mix. I'm reviewing months later because I've just tipped the last of this out to repot some succulents before winter and despite the bag being sat open its still damp. Wont be buying this one again, I'd be easier mixing my own. I also think having the moist bag laying about attracted more fungus gnats, or maybe they came from the bag. If I had time I should have spread it out on a large tray and let it dry out. However, that's not something you expect to have to do with houseplant type compost, you'd expect it to be stored indoors/undercover, this would keep water out and shipping costs down too, it must have been like posting a bag of wet sand in weight.

My cacti have bloomed since repotting in this soil mixture.
Got a lot of use out of it so far and still have some left. Obviously had to mix in some additives (perlite, coco coir, worm castings) as this cactus soil is very organic. It also has some moisture retention type of material that I am not fond of. You will see it as thumb sized hard dark lumps throughout the mixture. I just pick them out when I find them. But as long as you add grit, sand or rocks with this compost it is suitable and well draining enough for cacti and succulents. My cacti have bloomed since repotting in this soil mixture.

Perfect for my aloe vera
A sandy, very free draining compost - ideal for cacti and desert plants.I have used this to re pot my aloe vera plant and it is thriving in its new pot.The compost is damp in the bag - for cacti etc I would leave it out to dry for a few days before potting. This is not a problem for my aloe vera - they can handle a bit of water on occasion. It was easy to use and has really improved the soil drainage.Compared to other brands this does appear to be very good value for a decent sized bag.

Expensive, but good.
I have always used this compost, but in the past, have bought at garden centres. Can be difficult to find though. My cacti and succulents seem to thrive on it. The product arrived earlier than expected, which was a bonus, and when I opened it, I didn’t find it to be wet, as mentioned in other reviews, but slightly drier in moisture content than regular multi-purpose compost. It’s unfortunate that the compost is quite expensive, especially for the size of the bag, but generally, I’m very happy with it, as are my plants.

Too wet? But good value ...
I’ve given 3 stars as, the soil was very very damp when I opened and used, maybe I should have left it to dry out first? However, my succulents did not like the damp and pretty much turned yellow and softened as soon as they were moved.... am trying to revive, big bag, great value, just seemed very wet for a cacti type of soil...

Excellent product
Bought this for my cacti plants and the compost was really good and easy to use. Suits my succulent plants. The seller was very prompt in responding and helpful which makes both the product and service to be excellent. I recommend this product. Price was also reasonable.

Works well
I use this compost to repot my aloe vera "babies" which I'm quickly overrun with. The ones that I have re-potted using this compost are thriving. I'm even giving them away to neighbours because they grow so well!
