Both Familiar and Upgraded
This game brings back great memories of playing as a kid but adds fun new features that make repeated play worth it. My kids LOVE the options for gravestones, hunting is still super fun (but why doesn't a buffalo get you 200lbs of meat anymore???), and fishing is a cool new addition. There are also cool mini games to play that can unlock elements of the main gameplay. Very enjoyable

Buy it and play with your kids.
Fun, entertaining, my girlfriend and I have played this childhood game for several hours on different occasions. My kids really enjoy it so far too. The game isn’t super complex or advanced either, glad they kept it that way. Hunting and fishing are fun options.

The Oregon Trail Nintendo Switch
A Great Modern Take on a Classic JourneyThe Oregon Trail on Nintendo Switch is a fantastic reimagining of the classic educational game, blending nostalgia with modern enhancements. The game stays true to its roots, offering the familiar challenging trek across the American frontier, where players must carefully manage supplies, navigate unexpected dangers, and make tough decisions that impact their journey. One of the biggest improvements in this version is the presentation. The pixel-art style combined with dynamic animations brings the journey to life in a way that feels fresh yet faithful to the original. The soundtrack is beautifully composed, perfectly complementing the setting. The UI is clean and user-friendly, making it easy to track resources, health, and progress.Beyond visuals, the game adds depth to the storytelling by incorporating diverse perspectives, including Native American characters and narratives. This provides a more historically informed experience than previous versions. The game also features multiple difficulty levels, varied routes, and a wide selection of party members, adding replayability and allowing players to experience new challenges each time. However, there are a few drawbacks. The game's pacing can sometimes feel slow, especially during long stretches where not much happens. While random events keep things unpredictable, some moments can feel unfair, such as sudden illnesses or accidents that wipe out a key party member with no way to prevent it. This can be frustrating, particularly in harder playthroughs. Additionally, while the updated visuals are charming, some fans of the original may wish for an option to switch to a more retro aesthetic.Overall, this is one of the best modern versions of The Oregon Trail, delivering a fun, engaging, and historically rich experience. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, this game is a great blend of strategy, survival, and storytelling. While it isn’t perfect, it’s a worthy update to a beloved classic. A solid 4-star experience!

Takes Me Back...
I remember playing this game when it first was released for computer more years ago than I like to admit. Pure nostalgia! I bought this for switch and it did not disappoint- still a fun game and son and nephews have played and enjoyed this one as well. It's a classic!

Great to share my past with my son.
Played this game with my pre-teen son. It was a blast. Graphics were good and it kept well to the old game.

An Amazing Reinvention of a Classic!
This is the remix of the original computer game that came out in the 80's. It is about surviving the hardships of traveling the Oregon Trail in the mid 1800's. While it is enjoyable entertainment, it is based on real life situations so there will be real life - death, disease, accidents, etc. I use to skip class just to sneak into the computer lab and play The Oregon Trail on the The Apple IIe. I've played other reincarnations of the game, but this one gets it right. They include indigenous people's stories and history that the first game did not, but should have. The music is neat and sets the mood. The graphics keep the style of the original game but updated and with feeling. I received the game last nite and I'm having a hard time putting it down. It's a must have for any fan of OG Oregon Trail and a fun learning experience for kids that they will keep coming back and playing.
