Optics and Optical Instruments: An Introduction

This is a great book for someone new to optics
This is a great book for someone new to optics. It has a lot of great experiments which I wish I had an optics bench for, but you can just do them with OSLO EDU version or another free optics software suite. In particular it has a ton of detail about basic instruments such as telescopes, binoculars and microscopes. I wish it had more on loupes but you cant have everything I guess. It also has a great practical chapter on what it takes to actually make optics. If you actually want to set up a shop you will find this useful.

LIMIT TO LENS, MIRROR AND PRISMS
COVERS LENS SYSTEMS, PRISMS, MICROSCOPES AND TELESCOPES WELL WITH ALL FORMULAS AND DIAGRAMS. MATERIAL IS DATED TO 1960. DOES NOT INCLUDE LASERS, DICHROIC MATERIALS, NIGHT VISION, THERMAL OPTICS, OR HOLOGRAPHIC IMAGING. IT'S VERY USEFUL AS FAR AS IT GOES.

Lots of examples, too light on theory
There's a large focus on examples and devices, but I would have much preferred more emphasis on fundamentals, theory, and equations. It's fairly difficult to find many of the common equations in this book.
