A Healthy Coat, if you can keep it
Whenever someone I know tells me they've recently adopted a cat, or are planning to in the near future, I always tell them to buy The Honest Kitchen Dehydrated Grain Free Chicken & Fish Cat Food. Start 'em early, I say, the younger the better. If you can get your cat to acquire a taste for freeze-dried grain free food before they've had a chance to taste the variety of other cat foods out there, many of which are full of grains and other shady (though I'm sure quite delicious) ingredients, then your cat will be assured a smooth and silky coat for years to come. It's true, this food makes for shiny and healthy kitties. I have been feeding it to both my cats for years and their luxurious locks are evidence of the merits of this product.Don't let appearances deceive you- a box full of beige powder that smells lightly of shrimp and cardboard may not seem like the best cat food around, but mix in a bit of water and watch a soupy organic delight appear in your cats bowl. Each cat tends to have unique preferences about the consistency of their food, which my household has, due to its soup-like appearance, taken to calling "Chicken Water." My eldest cat prefers a balanced ratio of powder to water, not too wet and not too dry. She is a long hair with a glorious piebald mane and will happily lap up every drop of her Chicken Water dinners, as long as I top it off with a serving of 5 or so friskies cat treats. My ex boyfriend's cat, a massive main coon, preferred his dinners VERY watery. My youngest cat, however, is not as mature in her dietary habits and is constantly changing her mind about whether or not she likes this food. I made the dire mistake of feeding her cheap Friskies canned food for a few weeks when my recurring amazon subscription lapsed for a month and I found my cabinets empty of The Honest Kitchen Dehydrated Grain Free Chicken & Fish Cat Food. Listen, this food is great, but its not cheap. It's easy to let the price deter you from keeping a good stock of this cat food in the house, but I urge you not to repeat my mistakes.Once my younger cat got a taste for Friskies wet food, the certifiable McDonalds of cat foods, she began to turn her nose up at healthy, grain-free options. I tired to remedy this situation by feeding both of my cats one scoop of of Chicken Water and topping off the eldest's bowl with dried treats (aka "her crunchies") and the youngest cat's bowl with a spoonful of wet food. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a lot of this expensive food going to waste. I am still dealing with the ramifications of this mistake and have been trying to find a compromise between health and flavor when it comes to my youngest cat's dietary habits. I have noticed her coat is less shiny and soft ever since she has turned away from the magic of The Honest Kitchen chicken water, but I love her and it is difficult to force her to eat things I know she does not like. I only wish she had the sensibilities and mature palette of her older sister-- she knows what's good for her! But even so, I will not give up. I plan to order more of the Honest Kitchen Dehydrated Grain Free Chicken & Fish Cat Food and am committed to finding a way to convince my picky eater to enjoy it.A final warning: the last time I took my youngest cat in for a routine check up, the vet laughed at me when I recounted the struggles I have had with her food preferences. She told me that this dehydrated food was far too expensive and that I should just feed her cans of Purina wet food instead. Clearly, this vet has not felt the luxurious sheen of a cat's coat who has been fed a steady diet of chicken water. Though at least one of my cats may not agree, I still think this is the best cat food on the market.

Cat loves it - just give the adjustment period
My cat wanted nothing to do with this food when I first got it for him. So I actually listened and read the directions and added a tiny bit to his normal food. It only took like 3/10 days for him to eat solely this food. He is six years old 16 pounds so I do one cup and one cup water and that actually gets him through about 2-3 days so should be on track for one box a month. The high protein actually helps him eat less and it’s helped his weight, when he sits you can see his feet again lol. He loves it now it’s been about three weeks, and he can barely wait the three minutes while it’s hydrating.

Not what little man wanted
Obviously purchased for the health benefit. My cat did NOT like it at all. Refused to even taste it. I noticed while making it, it didn't smell good at all. (Nothing like any cat food I've ever purchased) Honestly smelled like a protein shake. I was really hopeful, since he loved the minced and pate versions, but Will not purchase again.

Kitten loves it
My kitten loves this. This brand was recommended by a friend whose pets also love this dehydrated food. Vet approved too!

Not Sure How to Feel
I originally bought this because I thought I could get more meals for my two cats out of this stuff than normal cans. When I originally did the math I should have gotten about 27-30 days of food for two under 10lb cats. But as I used it, I only got about 20 days of food for both, which is not bad but just not what I was looking for.My cats didn't hate it but they didn't enjoy it, I noticed that after adding water and letting it sit and hydrate the food still continued to almost "cement" up, just super thick and paste-y but not in a good way. I also noticed that there were alot of super hard bits I can only think were crushed chicken bones and some of the greens in there just didn't hydrate properly and my cat ended up throwing it up.So because of all those things combined : super hard mysterious bits, super hard veggie bits and weird consistency that continued to thicken, as well as not being economic for me, I wont be buying again for my cats.

Toothless cat loves it!
I recently went through the unfortunate event of having to take my senior Kitty in for major tooth extraction surgery, leaving my poor Kitty hungry due to not being able to chew. Pate wasn’t fine enough for her to lap up the first two weeks. Finding this food has been a game changer for us both. She loves it! Easy to lap up when using enough water, she’s a very picky eater too so I was quite pleased with this purchase. Will be buying again and would recommend for kitties with Paradental disease.

it looks like people food and smells good
unfortunately, my cats don’t seem to like the texture I think so it’s a no from them. I wish they liked it. You can see what’s in it and it smells so good. Read the ingredients. You will be happy a 2 pound box makes 8 pounds of food, all you have to do is add warm water. I would’ve switched them over if they would eat it even though I love what they are on. I don’t like their wet food. This would’ve been a great replacement.I am doing a review because the honest kitchen does everything right it seems
