These are A LOT OF WORK!
I'm giving it 5 stars because I did, in fact receive a bag of dried lupini beans just like I ordered. These are no ordinary beans, my friend. These take time and patience, and then more time and patience. You must first soak these for 24 hours. Then boil for 2 hours, let cool, drain the water, and soak in salt water FOR 5 DAYS! It is imperative to change the salt water 2 to 3 times per day so they don't smell like sulphuric vomit. These beans are TOXIC without taking these steps. They are high in extremely bitter alkaloids that need leached out by the salt water.Once you finally get the beans edible, there is yet another step. The outside skin of the beans is pretty tough, so you need to get pop those off....every bean. THEN you can brine them in a jar and hopefully, if you are still alive, eat them.

Do not recommend: black mold/mildew spots outside and inside.
I love lupini beans / chochos. I had them for the first time in an airline snack box, and I was hooked - they are delicious and PACKED with protein and fiber. The prepared ones are expensive, so I decided to make my own. This is the second brand I've tried, and I do NOT recommend it, because SO MANY of them were bad.Lots of them were brown and cracked. A lot more had gross black mold/mildew spots. I cook dry beans all the time, and I'm used to having to throw some away, but I was shocked at how many I had to discard. After soaking, I found even more with black spots under the skin. Then I found even more after cooking. I didn't count how many I had to throw away, but it was A LOT.I also think it was irresponsible for the brand to not include cooking instructions on the package, since lupini beans can be toxic if not prepared correctly.I still recommend lupini beans (just not this brand!), but be aware:- The preparation is a lot of work: you need to soak them for a full 24 hours, boil for 1-2 hours, then soak in salt water, changing it twice a day, until they no longer taste bitter, which is how you know they are safe to eat. (For me, that usually takes 5-7 days.) If you don't want to deal, you can buy them in jars or snack packets, but that's a lot more expensive.- Like any high-fiber food, they can cause bloating and gas if you're not used to it. Take it slowly, and/or get some Beano.- The skin is edible but tough, so most people discard it as they eat or during the brining phase. I don't mind, so I just eat it.- They are good plain, but I especially love them with some combination of cumin, garlic, lemon, and olive oil.

Where did they send the normal sized beans?
I've been eating lupini ever since I could chew and I'm 85. This is the first time I bought this brand and my only complaint is they're so small - some are tiny. So, if you're a traditional "bite & squeeze" lupini eater, be careful not to bite your finger. I just had quite a few with some red wine - they were quite good - just like lupini are supposed to taste. Here's how I prepped them:Wash and sort; Soak in water overnight; Change water and bring to a boil; Boil 6-10 minutes; Let cool, Change water, Add salt and refrigerate overnight. Change the water and add salt every day (I do it once a day) and taste one for bitterness after 5 days. Mine were ready on the 7th day.

Worth the work. Delicious
Yes it will take some work to prepare but they are delicious. Do small batches at a time.Soak 24 hrs- rinse change water and boil for 1/2 hour - let them rest in the hot water for 3 hours. Rinse then put in a container or jars and cover with fresh clean water and a teaspoon of salt.- keep in fridge soaked - rinse and change water daily or every other day adding new salt to the fresh water. They are ready to eat not before 2 weeks when they are no longer bitter. - they will keep in the fridge for more weeks as long as you change the water (and add salt) daily or every other day.Yes it’s work but worth it.

Awful, rancid
The minute I opened the package it smelled rancid. I threw away all the ones that looked black and cooked the rest. Every day when I changed water more and more beans had turned brown. I kept throwing them away. After 5 days I tasted one and tasted rancid. I will never buy from this company again.
