Lace

A story of child abuse, told to titillate readers.
Read this first when I was about 12 and thought I was terribly sophisticated reading such a racy book. I bought it again to amuse myself during lockdown and was shocked to think I ever found it entertaining. All the lead characters suffer some sort of humiliating sexual assault at some stage and this is written as being par for the course. The treatment of Lili as a protagonist rather than a victim is the worst part. The racy details the book is so famous for is basically a description of child sexual abuse. I know the 80s were a different time but a 13 year old child being forced into pornography was never acceptable and never once is anyone other than the unfortunate Lili made feel guilty about it. This copy has ended up in the recycling bin.

Classic
Bit expensive for an old book, but one of the wife’s favourites

Thoroughly enjoyed Lace
Really enjoyed reading this book, having watched the miniseries as a young teen I thought I would give the book a go, was very different but also much better in terms of detail and giving information of the women's backgrounds. It was so interesting to learn what life was like for women in the 50's etc. highly recommended.

Lace discovered.
Lace has a good plot, a narrative that draws the reader on and characters that are are well defined and believable. The sex scenes are well written but not salacious. All in all, Lace is a rattling good read and not in the least bit dated. I heartily recommend it.
