Long Road to Mercy

Very disappointing
I brought this book as my husband & I are very avid David Baldacci readers!Having thoroughly enjoyed (almost without exception) his other books my husband read it first! He persevered to the end but found that it took a long time to get going & when it eventually did the plot became ridiculously unbelievable- Atlee Pine (the FBI agent) is cast as an unbelievable tattooed wonder woman! On that basis I am not even going to waste my time on it & if it had been Baldacci’s first book we would have not read anymore & missed out on his many other superlative books & phenominal characters! Will we still get his new book...... most probably ......it can’t possibly be this bad!

Brilliant!
WOW! Well, firstly, I bought my very first David Baldacci book but it wasn’t this - it was called ‘A Minute to Midnight’, which I enjoyed very much. Whilst reading it, I felt there must have been another in the same series with Atlee Pine so I investigated and yes, I got this book. I absolutely LOVED it and now have a new heroine in Atlee Pine; she is sassy, takes no nonsense and has more energy in her small finger than I have in my whole body! Some people have commented in their reviews that the story is boring!!!! I don’t think they can have read the same book as me then as this has non-stop action. Truly loved it. Now looking forward to reading the final book of the trilogy

Great story , characters you back from the start , great pacing .
In Tescoe one day and whilst waiting for the missus , picked up Redemption by this author whilst prowling the paperbacks . Read it over 3 evenings ( Redemption) and it is a fantastic story and got me reading this author . At the end of Redemption is the first chapter of The Road To Mercy . So , I bought that and it to engaged me the whole read David Baldacci likes his leading characters to be tortured souls , loners with tragic back stories and the stories are intricate, weaving in all manner of directions. Another of his stories , Memory Man , is quite simply the best crime novel I've ever read and I've read a lot . Amos Decker would make an incredible Sky Crime series as long as you cast him very carefully and thoughtfully .

Disappointing
I am so disappointed with this book. I have read and enjoyed almost all of David Baldacci's work, but Long Road to Mercy feels like a debut novel from an author who is trying to find his way through a minefield of grammatical errors, plot confusion and a main character who is not believable. I will battle on to the end and hope the next one improves 100%.

Can do a lot better. Take a break David
I am 80% through this book. If I wasn’t a real David Baldacci fan I would have given up. It is so slow and silly plot with strange faceless characters and unlike his other books which kept me awake this one sends me to sleep. I decided to see what others think of it and see it has overall 4.4 or of 5 stars - unbelievable! but if I look at reviews there are so many 1 or 2 star reviews and many disappointed diehard fans. Why is this Amazon. I don’t know if we can rely on total reader reviews anymore. Take a break David. Take time to come back to the crackers you have entertained us with so many other times.
