Best for small dog
I bought this gate because I have a dog who wants to get into the cat's food and litter box. Works well and easy for me to step over. The cat leaps over it like its a stone on the floor! I wanted this one as opposed to the kind that you install on the wall because I didn't want to damage the walls. I have furniture on either side of the doorway into the cat's room so I could just slide the ends behind the furniture... But the dog somehow managed to get it open so I ended up putting the metal brackets on it so that it wouldn't fold up easily... now she can't get it open...I like this and would recommend it!** Adding to my previous review (this addition as of December 26, 2012)Believe it or not, the dog (a dachshund) has managed to break this gate. Apparently she kicks at it with her front paw and has broken it at the seams of the gate. I really liked this gate but it just wasn't sturdily constructed.

Great Gate!!
I have an older small baby that I like to give a little more room to move around during the day when I'm gone. I can do this with this gate and not have to worry about the occasional accident on my carpet. It works well enough that I can place it anywhere in the house as you can set it up and move it easily. It can cover a small opening or a large one (or a huge one if you get the five panel!!) with no scrapes of walls, no nails or screws, since there is no hardware or installation of any kind involved!I wouldn't say it would keep an overly agressive large one contained but my mother also purchased this item and she has younger rowdier babies and they have pushed on it and not knocked it over yet. The trick is to manuever it where it is sturdier if you do have more rambunctious pets or angle it in a door or door frame. All in all if you are looking for a great gate at a good price with no marks on your walls you cannot go wrong with this one!! I'd recommend it to anyone.

Great design, poor construction.
It saddens me to leave a 3 star review for this product considering I use it everyday and that I have purchased 3 of them - all at different times. In theory this should be a 5 star product because it is VERY useful and it is a great design. It is exactly what I was looking for, EXCEPT it is cheaply made. I wish the manufacturer would use stronger wood, glue and screws, bump up the overall quality just a bit. I would gladly purchase again even it meant paying a little more. So why 3 stars? Because even though it is cheaply made it does serve its purpose. I have a malte-poo who needs to blocked out from certain parts of our house and yard. She is only allowed in the living room and in her "dog run" outside. I use these gates to keep her confined to certain areas of the house and I also used 2 more of them to create a dog run on the outside of the house. Now keep in mind my dog only needs a visual reminder of where not to go. Can she knock this down? ABSOLUTELY, but she knows she isn't supposed to so she doesn't. This gate stands on its own (best to keep it slightly folded so it doesn't tip over) it is not fixed to anything which makes it super convenient to move around and there is no need to make holes in your walls or cabinets. The "free standing" feature is the main reason I purchased it but this also means that with one slight tap it can come crashing down and since it isn't well made it can and will eventually break. 2 of my gates have broken due to the occasional falls on hardwood floors or being knocked down against the rocks that I use to keep it from tipping over on the grass outside. Mine broke from the rails so I was able to fix it by placing glue in the socket (hole) and placing the rod/poles back into the hole. It seems to be holding fine for now. I have seen similar gates on Amazon but most are just 3 panels and I chose this brand because I could purchase the same style/color in both a 5 panel and a 3 panel. They are also somewhat affordable compared to other gates of this length. I also appreciate the height, which means I don't need to move the gate and I can just walk over it. Note: If you need to remove panels you could easily unscrew a panel. You could also purchase extra hinges and screw 2 gates together (which is what I did for my gate outside) You can also easily change the direction of the folds by repositioning the screws/holes. I needed a panel to fold in the opposite direction leading out of the doggy door and I was able to do this by unscrewing it flipping it the opposite way and drilling the screws into that side. (Because wood is so cheap you don't need to predrill holes you can just drill the screw right into the wood- this makes repositioning easy but also speaks to how delicate the wood is :/ ) I do like my gates and I will keep them for now but if and when they fall apart then I will need to look for a better quality product. Side note: I ordered one more gate to extend my dog run outside but it arrived broken (I am guessing it got banged up or something heavy was placed on it during shipment) Amazon promptly refunded my purchase. I decided not to reorder another one because that is when I finally accepted the fact that these are not made to last and I decided to cut my losses.

Cheap wood plus a smart doggie equals HUGE waste of money!!
I bought this gate to contain a just about 10 pound miniature dachshund and it was a HUGE waste of money, especially because I paid over $40 for what basically boils down to a fence made of wood that has the density of heavy cardboard!!! (What was I thinking??!!)My dog is SMALL and short in stature but she almost immediately figured out how to get around the gate. It is constructed of VERY light wood. My dog figured out how to stand with her paws on the top of the fence and then pull it forward, knocking it out of place so she could proceed to any room she wanted. I "solved" this problem by purchasing bricks which I put at the base of the fence so she could not knock it out of position. I then found that she "solved" this problem by chewing through the slats, in record time. She is not quite a year old and enjoys chewing but I was shocked as to how quickly she chewed through these slats! It took her about 15 minutes (while I was in the basement doing a load of wash). By chewing through a slat, she created her own "doggie door" and again had free aceess to the house. So in short, cheap, light wood makes this fence a waste of money for any dog with some ingenuity.I should have sent it back as soon as she started knocking it down but stupidly just kept trying to rememdy the problem with homemade solutions. Once the fence was broken (chewed through), it was 2 days past the 30 day return policy and Amazon would not allow me to return it. Is 30 days enough to know if a product works, especially if it is defective? But that's another issue.

A bit cheap
I have had it for 3 months. Its not meant for dogs that have any determination to push a fence over. Even small dogs could manage to move it if they really wanted to. Sadly ours broke fairly easy (not dog related). The wood is merely 1X1's and they are not super sturdy

Very poor quality, buyer beware.
This product is of very poor quality. After 3 months, the gate has fallen apart - lots of the wooden parts came unglued and disintegrated. Not recommended. I would return it if I could do so now.

Cheap Fix
This product is made of unfinished soft wood. I bought it for puppy containment. I had to spray it with Bitter Apple as she is an eight pound brute that loves to crew on virtually anything. It keeps her in place and does the job but it is not an elegant solution. We are getting her potty trained so eventually this will be taken down. Good for a temporary fix.
