To dig a mini hole, of course. Seriously, though, if you are trying to insert your trap into a heavily rooted material, some times you need to make a cut or slice just to inset the point.

Q: How long will the traps last?

It depends on how many insects it catches.I used these for 3 weeks, these traps were covered with fruit flies.I have to replace them.
