An Outstanding Read about the Iraqi War
Johnson’s honesty about this war was refreshing. The number of times he was involved in shooting situations was an eye opener, especially early on when they were at the bridge and had to kill thousands of Iraqi troops. Like he said he had a lot of luck that kept him from either being killed or seriously injured. Loved the book and highly recommend it. Learned a lot about the war that I didn’t know before. While I’m a 21 year Navy retiree with only peacetime service, I’m thankful for men like Johnson who served in wartime service.

A Great Insight into a Line Company AAR
I did two tours in Afghanistan (OEF 2-3 and OEF 11-12) and one tour to the CentCom AOR (OEF 12-13). This book was well written and had me turning pages as the story moved forward. Highly recommended for those who desire a great read about average Joes doing above average talkers.

Life as a fighting Soldier by an NCO
Former Soldiers will love this book that tells the truth about war and pulls no punches. Leave the cameras and JAG and reporters home and let these troops get the job done ! These are the Heroes that keep our Country free. Prepare to be horrified if you are a liberal wuss .

Look at me
This guy kind of likes talking about himself. Honestly most of the read seems pretty.far fetched due to the writing style. Although I do not.discount his story or his service to.the country the writing itself detracts from.the overall experience.

I saw a review and interview of Johnson and googled ...
I saw a review and interview of Johnson and googled the book to see what the hype was. I too am a combat veteran having spent a year in Iraq 2004-2005 running a PSD throughout the NW Baghdad AO, and three years in Afghanistan; 2002-2003, (Paktika) and , 2008-2009 (RC east and RC Central), and 2012-2013 (RC North) (all of these tours outside the wire most of the time) I do have enough experience to be able to make an informed assessment of the book.I am not going to sit her and pick apart the minute details or technical aspects because his personality overwhelms the story.Believe me, I tried to go about reading it with an open mind but it was evident right from the start that Johnson sure does think a lot of himself. He has written the quintessential “there I was, knee deep n grenade pins “novel.Do I think some of what he says happened really did? Of course. But he just lays it on way too thick. You know , the old joke goes: “What’s the only difference between a fairy tale and a war story? A fairy tale begins with once upon a time and a war story begins with This is no bull$h!t”.My BS meter pinged hard right on this one. Sorry but he lost his integrity by putting his over the top claims of his personal accomplishments above anyone and anything else. It was all about him. Everything and everyone else was secondary.Add to this the questions and concerns about his wearing awards and badges he didn’t earn and you have a person of questionable character.Save your money.

Very inspirational: Should be a movie!
Did my research. From what i can find the stories in this book are all true. Seems like a lot of jealous folks either misconstrue the details of what Jay says or just cant accept that the guy was always in the wrong place at the right time. Reminds me of another Kentucky vet from WWII. Stories almost unbelievable but still true. I learned a long time ago not to piss-off a hillbilly....they can fight like no other.

Outstanding.
Well written account of two tours in Iraq. Non-stop action. Honest, straightforward. Provides a unique perspective of a true American hero.

Fantastic
This book pulled me in hard from the first few pages. Found it very informative, emotional at times, and overall very well written. It sucks you in and hangs on throughout the whole book.

Compelling read
I need to start by saying that to say that I've read a lot of books in this sector is an understatement! So based on that info what did I think of this book?Let's just say it needs to be read. It's a insight into how things were right on the frontline. A no nonsense, no filler account of how a group of young lads lead by a veteran (Dillard johnson) lead the first wave into Iraq. I can't even begin to imagine how you deal with what they went through! In summary if you are into this kind of area of interest don't look any further, you won't want it to end!
