I'd love to tell you I bought this to go fishing any time, any where, but I actually got it as a cat toy.My kitten is a terror. Straight up hyper active terror. I wanted something I could use to cast a toy far away but also lazily bring it back so I didn't have to leave my couch to get it. Sheer laziness in entertaining a cat prompted this purchase.Are the lures good? I have no idea. I pawned them off on my Dad who said he could use them (as of writing this review he hasn't so I can't weigh in on the subject).Is the line it comes with good? I think so. It holds up to a 5lb kitten attacking a toy at the end so you know, logically that also means it'll hold up to a 5lb fish? Honestly I don't know. But hey, it holds up to a terror of a kitten so there's that.It's super easy to use. Granted, casting rattling fake mice is a world apart from a lure (lighter weight makes it harder to cast) but overall super easy. You can learn even if you've never used an actual fishing pole for actual fishing (I've used standard poles for fishing, just cast the same.My friend who has never fished a day in her life picked up casting after 0 instructions from me in about 3 tries).The folding mechanism is neat, it allows the pole to stay very compact.Would this be the best fishing pole you've ever purchased? No, but do you expect it to be? No. It's a $15 folding fishing pole. It's compact and gets the job done with a bit of humor-whether you're cat fishing or kitten fishing.Really though-it's been a godsend for keeping that kitten entertained. He'll chase it after I cast and it'd fun to watch him chase it as I reel it back in. Sometimes I reel it in rather slowly so he can pounce it.

This is a review on the Ronco Pocket Fisherman prior to field test. Although I have spent quite a lot of time casting with this, I have not invested in the time to catch a fish yet. Please read further if you would like to know of my impressions otherwise.The unit is quite sturdy, and the plastic does not feel like it will break easily, short of really banging it into something hard or sitting on it. The folding action is nice as there's a depression for the inner eye to click into and thus securing the rod portion nicely. The handle strap is some cheap shiny leather look-alike so needless to say that mine is not sporting it. I had to learn how to tie the Perfection knot and how to tie a hook securely on the internet prior to being able to use this rod. Problem was, the bobber, weight, and fishing hook were all strung together in the wrong order. You will need to rearrange these items and securely retie them before you get what is pictured. Once that is done, the bobber is closest to the outer eye, followed by the weight, and then a fastener that uses tension to secure a loop. This loop I tied with the Perfection knot, and at the other end goes the hook. After all of this, you can switch out the hook for other lures so long as they are each securable by a loop. It came with two lures, one that looks to work, and the other looks more like dead weight. Casting is very easy, tension adjustment is not easy as the star is not very precise, but it all works nicely once adjusted. My unit also came in forrest green instead of what I thought was black, but that is superficial and is no deal breaker. The storage area within the handle is large enough for a couple lures.For the price, it is a solid unit that I am looking forward to putting through a field test. This seems far more a utility in person than the toy that it looks to be in picture. 4-stars for now, and I hope to post a follow-up.

Great product my dad loved it and he is 67 years old Easy to carry and store and cast and has every thing with it to survive if needing to fish in the woods. light weight as well and strong.

This is such a cool rod. My son plays with it in the front yard. It's durable and easy for young kids to use. I highly recommend this rod.
