Half the poems are about getting eaten.
My favorite poem of all time is "The Pig" but "The Tummy Beast" kind of jumped out at me in this one as I haven't read it until now. This was my favorite author as a kid and it was splendid to remember that while reading this. A fantastic book for any age. Out of the norm and completely mind boggling lol beautifully put though.

LOVE IT!
Don't buy this book as a soothing bedtime story- one of my favorites is about a crocodile who likes to eat boys with mustard and girls with caramel. It ends with the parent tucking the kid in bed listening to the crocodile coming up the stairs. A year ago my kids would have flipped out. But, at 6 and 8, they love this stuff now- as long as it isn't as bedtime. The rhymes are hilarious to an adult, especially one raised on Dahl, and delightful to a kid not raised in bubble-wrap. bad kids, bad animals, monsters, good times.

Love it! I have read most of this to ...
Love it! I have read most of this to my 4th graders. It flows so well, and they are great poems. I do have to explain a bit of the British vocabulary. But, other than that, it's easy to read and the kids love it.

Four Stars
Interesting, I suggest that parents probably should read before reading to their children.

One of the best children's book ever. I have bought them as presents for probably 30 years. Kids love them.

Not the standard childrens poems - finally
To read his work is to make you smile, grimace a bit, and have fun reading. Surprises in every verse.

Roald Dahl at his best
This is a MUST READ for my granddaughter. I love seeing her delight when I do the voices. It's a lightweight paperback book, but large size, so it is very easy to handle.

Classic rhyming stories
My own grown children loved Roald Dahl. I bought this poetry book for five and six year old grandsons. They ask to read again and again and it provides a lot to think about and discuss during and after reading.

Rhyming Tales involving Animals
I loved this picture book with the rhyming tales all involving animals. From the pig trying to work out the purpose of its life, the crocodile who likes boys who taste of mustard and girls who taste of caramel and butterscotch, the vengeful cow, the stingaling scorpion, the hungry ant-eater, the prickly porcupine and the beast in a kid's tummy. Also great to see the Roly Poly bird who features in quite a few Roald Dahl's books. All very memorable characters and rhymes. Loved it!

Funny short stories!!
My kids 4 and 6 absolutely love this book of little, funny stories! It has a wonderful humour to it and the stories are short so could be easily read to or by young readers themselves. A worthy buy if you like Roald Dahl

A very funny book for children
I’ve had a copy of this book for many years. This book is a replacement for my old copy which had finally dropped to pieces.
